The Sounds and Stories of Geevor

In late 2021, I was approached by The Sensory Trust to record, design and mix accessible audio tours of Geevor Tin Mine in Cornwall. The sounds and stories were recorded across autumn 2021 and early 2022, before launching in April 2022.

Embedding myself with The Wednesday Wanderers–a walking group at Geevor–I recorded tours of the site delivered by former miners Mo and Steve. I was particularly eager to capture a sense of the space and place, so supplemented the audio from the tours with ambisonic recordings of the rooms and areas explored across it. I wanted to ensure that the acoustics of the space were particularly illustrative, and the audio description intro was captured in The Dry, recording both the narrator (Shazz Andrew) beside the miners’ old lockers, as well as the sound of the room.
