Stret an Levow

In Summer 2021, I was commissioned by Sound UK–with Cornish artists Anna Maria Murphy and Sue Hill–to create a sound walk for Redruth town centre, funded by Historic England. ‘Stret an Levow’ is Cornish for ‘Street of Voices’.

Collaborating with Anna and Sue, we cultivated and gathered stories from the Redruth Community (often via recorded conversations fulled by tea and cake), then, wrote, recorded and mixed these. The Ballad of Gracie Briney was recorded on location in the Buttermarket where she used to sell her cherries, and I was particularly eager to capture the reverberatory quality of the space as it was re-enlivened through Claire Ingleheart’s singing.
